Background:
Our client is undergoing relocation to a new office space, relocating the IT infrastructure is a critical task to ensure a smooth transition and minimise operational disruptions. With a dateline of 1-month, proper coordination with the interior contractors and service providers is essential to the success of the relocation.
Objective:
To facilitate a smooth office relocation while ensuring uninterrupted IT services and minimal downtime. The project aims to coordinate with interior contractors for our LAN cabling works, liaise with internet and telecom providers for timely relocation, and efficiently set up the IT infrastructure in the new office space.
Execution:
Detailed planning was held with the interior contractors to ensure that our LAN cabling installation did not conflict with other electrical works in the office. The floor plan was provided to the contractors, which clearly indicated the specific placements of the LAN cables. The cabling works were prioritized as a foundational task, taking place before the installation of glass doors and individual desks. Thorough testing was conducted to ensure the cables were properly functioning before flooring works were carried out, covering the cables with cement and carpet.
The old office server rack was dismantled, ensuring its readiness for reuse. It was then relocated to the new office space, and cable patching and labelling were carried out to prepare for the setup of the IT equipment.
We requested to allocate a weekend prior to the office handover, allowing sufficient time to set up the IT equipment and establish all connections. This granted ample opportunity for testing and troubleshooting, guaranteeing a smooth transition on Monday. The entire IT infrastructure underwent comprehensive testing, including network connectivity, internet access, and server functionality.
Finally, the fully functional IT infrastructure at the new office was successfully handed over to our client.
Conclusion:
By effectively coordinating with the contractors, service providers, and project stakeholders, the office relocation and of its IT infrastructures was a success.
